Methodology
How we compare costs.
Our goal is to make healthcare cost comparisons easier to understand, while being clear about the limits of the information available.
Sick of Paying is designed to compare the details people provide about bills, estimates, insurance adjustments, cash prices, and out-of-pocket costs against relevant cost signals where available.
Healthcare prices vary by location, provider, insurance plan, network, procedure, timing, and billing code. Because of that, comparisons should be treated as useful context rather than a final ruling.
As the project grows, this page will explain the data sources, comparison logic, exclusions, confidence levels, and limitations behind each result.
